CNN has learned Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama has arrived in Afghanistan.---CNN, (duh)

US Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama has arrived in Afghanistan, at the start of a campaign-season international tour.

Mr Obama flew to Kabul as part of a US congressional team. He is expected to meet Afghan President Hamid Karzai.

He is later expected to visit Iraq, Jordan, Israel, Germany, France and Britain.

Mark Krikorian at National Review's "The Corner"

An activist attending the annual meeting in Miami of der Nationalrat das Volk reported that Rahm Emanuel said Democrats won’t attempt another "comprehensive" amnesty push until at least the second term of the next Democratic administration. That message suggests several things. First, amnesty obviously isn’t quite as popular as its proponents claimed. Second, Emanuel is trying to lower expectations to prevent the Hispanic activists from being further disappointed and thus perhaps angered at the Democrats. And perhaps third, that since La Raza and the rest of the Axis of Amnesty aren’t going to get the whole enchilada, they need to put their shoulders to the wheel to pass the piecemeal amnesties the Democrats are proposing as a consolation prize, including the Dream Act and the AgJobs bill.

I dunno why this set me off, but it did. Perhaps it's a straw/camel's back sort of thing. Anyways...

If you enter Manhattan from the West Side Highway, your welcome mat is Larry Flynt's in-your-face Hustler Club. If you enter from the Battery Tunnel (as I just did), it's ads (on the Brooklyn side, enticing those who would be enticed) for the Hustler and two other "Gentlemen's Clubs."

I know he's from Louisiana and they have their own problems, but if David Vittet were to fundraise or convince Disney to make find a way to wholesomely obstruct those views, I know he'd be making a worthwhile contribution to society. And he'd make more than a few New York City metropolitan area parents grateful

National Review and its "The Corner" blog in particular are always good for a laugh. I decided to let them know how funny (cough...moronic) they are by e-mailing a response to a recent post by AEI's Michael Ledeen regarding the recent saber-rattling between Australia and Iran. To wit:

"I've been reluctant to link to it, since it comes from al-BBC (you know, the ones that recently advertised for information about "troop movements" so they could broadcast it to anyone interested), but this link is to The Australian, so I decided to post it." (Source)

I assume I can expect a virulent denunciation of Fox News and any Corner posters who reference Fox News to be forthcoming, replete with race-baiting al-Fox News neologisms.

If everyone were in control of his appetites, there would be no need for the government to be involved in endorsing some sexual relationships while withholding endorsement from others. The more society undermines ancient standards of moral conduct, the harder it becomes to withstand temptation. This is why gay marriage threatens heterosexual marriage. Ok so Lamont has stock in a managed fund that happens to own wal-mart stock (link). It seems the usual MSM suspects think this means that despite Lamont's invectives against Wal-Mart's less-than-responsible business practices, Lamont is actually a whip-wielding sweatshop foreman in Indonesia when he's not campaigning.

Didn't you hear any contribution to an enterprise, whether or not its final destination is intended, is a wild-eyed endorsement of that money's destiny? That means that by paying my taxes I'm a wholehearted supporter of the Iraq war and anything Dear Leader does in my name. By paying taxes, Rick Santorum is secretly endorsing all of the buttfucking that the supreme court and law enforcement make possible. By giving a dollar to a beggar, I showed my dyed-in-the-woll support for meth manufacturing community.

In yet another fill-in-the-blanks screed against the evil NYT published today 7-6-06, token gasbag black conservative Deroy Murdock writes once again about how the Times endangered poor, poor Rumsfeld with it's dangerous story about his summer house.

Now I know that this is riding on the coattails of Hunter's work on the subject of the faux-revelation of Mount Misery, most recently posted here. However, it's worth noting how far VRWC conspiracies reach even when their erstwhile motivations are shown beyond doubt to be laughable. They just keep barelling ahead through facts and reason, like a rudderless, captainless ship mowing through icebergs. Of course, we get to deal with the aftermath.

I've always had a hard time swallowing social studies/government classes. One of the biggest obstacles between me accepting the good govt. message, besides the misperception that America is a Democracy (it's a republic - if you don't know this crack an 'effin dictionary), is the notion that we have representatives.

I'm not gonna go look up census figures, but I'm pretty darn sure that there aren't ~10 black senators (just Obama), I'm also really damn sure that there aren't 217.5 women in the house (insert your minority of choice latino, GLBTQ, etc, in here. it's all good saddeningly true).

Whence cometh the disparity? Without delving into a hokey post-modern treatise on race and political identity (saying this as philosophy grad student), I think that it can be fairly well summed up by the word "Gravitas".

Gravitas often appears in aging white male populations. Signs of gravitas include jowls, gray hair, wrinkles, straight laced suits. Symptoms include an unending love for one's own voice, and an insistence that, expertise or qualifications be damned, you're to be trusted with issues of national importance. Read More
